Suspect detained in relation to the fentanyl poisoning of Shawnee adolescent

According to the KSHB 41 I-Team, an individual has been arrested in connection with the fentanyl poisoning of a teenager from Shawnee.

When Cooper Davis was just 16 years old, he tragically passed away from a fentanyl overdose in August 2021. According to his mother, he had taken half of what he believed to be a Percocet pill, only to discover it was actually a counterfeit pill containing fentanyl. This heartbreaking incident highlights the danger of fake pills and the devastating consequences they can have.

28-year-old Aaron Hansberry has been charged with distribution of a controlled substance causing great bodily harm or death, according to Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe. These charges have been confirmed by the authorities.

In a recent interview with the I-Team, Howe shared his thoughts on what message the charge conveys to the general public.

According to Howe, those who sell M30s, which he refers to as “selling death,” are essentially playing a game of Russian roulette with people’s lives. He believes that if you engage in this type of activity, you should be held accountable and be prepared to face prison time.

According to Howe, the accusation is categorized as a level one felony, indicating its gravity.

According to the I-Team’s source, the duration of a prison sentence for the suspect can vary significantly, ranging from 12 to 50 years. The extent of the sentence primarily depends on the suspect’s criminal history.

According to the I-Team, Cooper’s family has been contacted regarding the arrest, but they have expressed their discomfort in commenting until after the court proceedings have begun.

According to the latest updates, Hansberry’s preliminary hearing is set to take place on November 21.

Upon seeking information about Hansberry’s arrest, the I-Team filed a request for court documents.

According to court records, Hansberry was released from jail after posting bail. The I-Team attempted to contact his lawyer for a comment but has not received a response yet.
