According to The Post, it has been claimed that Naomi Biden, daughter of Hunter Biden, caused damage to the United States Capitol in 2011 during her time as a Senate page. This incident reportedly led to Hunter apologizing to the head of the page program.
At the age of 17, Naomi Biden, a student at the prestigious Sidwell Friends high school in Washington D.C., secured an enviable position as a page for Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, who was then the influential majority leader in the Senate.
During that period, Joe Biden, her grandfather, held the position of Vice President.
Back in June 2011, she had the privilege of touring the Capitol dome alongside a fellow page. This is usually something that only members of Congress and their guests are allowed to do.
According to reports, Naomi and her friend were accused of vandalizing the walls surrounding the iconic dome.
According to a former staffer who worked under Reid’s leadership, the act of carving their names into the stone during a tour of the rotunda was nothing short of vandalism. The staffer recalled this incident vividly, stating that the individuals responsible left an indelible mark on the stone at the top of the dome.
According to an insider, the location at the very top of the building could only accommodate a few people at a time. It was only accessible during a tour, and there was no other way to reach it. The insider vividly remembered the details of this exclusive spot.
According to reports, the damage was so extensive that architects had to be brought in to buff it out.
According to another former employee of Reid, it was made known to Joe Biden about the misconduct.
In 2011, Hunter Biden utilized his name and connections to assist foreign business partners, as reported by the New York Post. However, when faced with a controversy, he attempted to mitigate the situation by sending a desperate email to Elizabeth Roach, the longstanding leader of the Senate page program. The email was an effort to control the damage caused by the incident.
In an email found on his abandoned laptop, Joe Biden, the father of Naomi Biden, expressed his deep regret over his daughter’s behavior. He acknowledged that he had been in meetings all day and had only just learned of what had happened. Joe stated that he would be speaking with Naomi as soon as she finished work that day and that he was disappointed in her behavior. However, he also clarified that he understood that the intent behind her actions was not malicious.
Within an hour, Roach had responded to the inquiry.
In response to your email, I wanted to express my gratitude for your efforts in emphasizing the seriousness of the situation to Naomi. Following our conversation, I instructed the pages to compose apology letters addressed to the sergeant at arms and the deputy sergeant at arms. I am pleased to report that Naomi composed respectful and appropriate notes to each of them.
Roach chose not to provide a statement on the matter. Terrance W. Gainer, the former sergeant at arms who received Naomi’s letter of apology, recounted the incident of vandalism.
“It’s not surprising that it happened. Teenagers who are away from home for the first time are prone to making mistakes. Our aim was to provide guidance and help them correct their behavior so they could thrive in their new environment.”
According to an individual who has first-hand information about the matter, the carvings were considered a longstanding tradition, and many other Senate pages had indulged in similar acts of defacement.
It seems that there were no severe repercussions for the incident. Simply a few weeks after the occurrence in July 2011, Naomi Biden joined her father on a journey to China as his companion.
Naomi Biden pursued her education at the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia Law School after serving in the Senate. Similar to her father, she developed a fondness for representing foreign nations and began her career in international arbitration law at Arnold & Porter, a prestigious law firm in Washington D.C. In fact, she even represented Peru while living in the White House, showcasing her impressive legal skills and knowledge.
The representative for Naomi Biden did not provide any comments on the matter.
