Authorities: CHP fired on Compton driver who tried to smash officers during traffic check

According to authorities, on Monday night, a driver in Compton made an attempt to ram a car at California Highway Patrol officers, prompting them to open fire.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a man in his early to mid 20s, who has not been identified, managed to escape on foot after a traffic stop that was initiated due to speeding. The suspect’s description has been provided, but authorities have yet to apprehend him.

According to a spokesperson for the Highway Patrol, the occurrence took place just past 11:30 p.m. at the junction of Alondra Boulevard and Aprilia Avenue.

According to a spokesperson, during a routine traffic stop, two CHP officers stepped out of their patrol car and were suddenly faced with a driver in a Kia Optima who accelerated towards them. As a result, one of the officers fell onto his back.

According to the Highway Patrol, both officers discharged their firearms in response. Following this, a short pursuit took place as the suspect and the officers got back into their vehicles. The chase came to an end after the officers lost sight of the suspect, who then abandoned the car and ran away on foot. Eventually, the vehicle was discovered near the intersection of Aprilia Avenue and Cypress Street.

According to the CHP, there were no injuries reported among officers.
