According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, Khalif Toombs received his sentence on Thursday, Sept. 14 for his involvement in the fatal shooting of Lamir King, who was also from Atlantic City.
According to the prosecutor, Toombs has admitted to conspiring to commit murder in the first degree.
Khalif Toombs gained recognition for his skills as a basketball player during his time at Atlantic City High School. He continued to excel in the sport when he played for South Carolina State University, leaving a lasting impression on the court. According to the plea agreement, Toombs is expected to spend 12 years in the New Jersey State Prison, as per the regulations of the No Early Release Act.
As previously reported by Daily Voice, Toombs is currently serving an 11-year sentence in a federal prison for his involvement in a Paterson-to-Atlantic-City drug ring. This ring was responsible for the distribution of heroin that led to the deaths of 48 individuals due to overdose, as well as 84 other non-fatal overdoses.
According to the prosecutor, Jamie Sewell Sr., a 58-year-old resident of Atlantic City, was apprehended and later admitted to his involvement in the shooting. Sewell has pleaded guilty and is facing a sentence of 10 to 20 years in state prison. The court will decide his fate later this year.
According to the prosecutor, Toombs pleaded guilty to the charge of hiring Sewell to cause the death of King.
According to the prosecutor, he will be staying at the Atlantic County Justice Facility until his sentencing on November 2.
