According to sources, the police have taken into custody the owner of a Bronx daycare and a neighbor in connection with the tragic death of a 21-month-old boy and the hospitalization of three other children due to fentanyl found at the facility. The first pictures of the grim layout of the daycare have also been released. The incident is a heart-wrenching reminder of the dangers posed by drugs and the importance of safety measures, especially in facilities that cater to young children.
Grei Mendez De Ventura and Carlisto Acevedo Brito, the owner and subletter respectively, of Divino Nino are currently facing charges. According to sources, Brito is a new arrival to the United States from the Dominican Republic, and his legal status is currently unclear. The charges are pending as reported in this article from the New York Post.
Authorities are currently searching for a third suspect who is still at large.
According to records, the Morris Avenue daycare, opened by Ventura at the age of 36 in May, successfully passed a surprise annual inspection on September 6th.
According to officials and police sources, a kilo press and almost a kilo of fentanyl were discovered inside the same apartment used by the daycare. A kilo press is a device commonly used by drug dealers to mix fentanyl with either cocaine or heroin. This discovery is deeply concerning and highlights the severity of the ongoing drug crisis.
According to sources, it is believed that the children have breathed in the lethal drug.
According to the mother and grandmother of the two survivors, who happen to be a 2-year-old boy in critical condition at Montefiore Hospital and his 8-month-old sister, the police work was commendable. They appreciated the efforts of the authorities in ensuring the safety of their loved ones.
The mother of the two kids expressed her satisfaction with the situation by saying, “It’s good, it’s very good.” She strongly desires justice to be served as she finds the incident to be quite unbelievable.
The children’s grandmother sternly warned that any wrongdoing would come with consequences. The two women who made the statement preferred to remain anonymous.
According to sources, a distressing incident occurred at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Friday, where four young children – a one-year-old boy, two two-year-old boys, and an eight-month-old girl – were discovered unresponsive in the daycare.
Upon arrival at the facility, first responders found two of the children in cardiac arrest. The 21-month-old toddler, Nicholas Dominici, and a 2-year-old boy were both administered multiple doses of Narcan, a drug used to reverse the effects of an overdose, according to authorities.
Unfortunately, Nicholas passed away while receiving treatment at Montefiore Hospital.
Officials reported that a fourth child, who was picked up from the daycare center around 1 p.m. on Friday, seemed to have been exposed to drugs as well.
After noticing that her 2-year-old son appeared to be unresponsive while he was sleeping, his mother quickly took him to Bronxcare Hospital. Thankfully, the child is now recovering according to authorities.
