A Virginia teenager was tragically shot and killed in Myrtle Beach, and the suspect responsible for this heinous crime will continue to be held in Horry County.
Gary Abraham, an 18-year-old resident of Aiken, has been charged by the Myrtle Beach Police Department in connection to the demise of Jakolbi Taylor, a 16-year-old. The charges against Abraham include murder, three counts of attempted murder, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
During a hearing on Sunday in Myrtle Beach, a municipal court judge noted that bond would have to be set by a circuit court judge for Abraham since bond was not set.
Abraham’s bond hearing in circuit court has not been scheduled for a specific date yet. However, he is expected to make an initial appearance in Conway on September 20th.
According to the MBPD, several law enforcement agencies including the Aiken Department of Public Safety, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, Horry County Sheriff’s Office, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division provided assistance in the case.
While on a trip with his AAU basketball team in Myrtle Beach, 16-year-old Taylor was tragically shot on July 20th at the 16th Avenue North beach access. According to Myrtle Beach police, officers arrived at the location around 1:15 a.m. and reported seeing multiple individuals fleeing the scene.
Following Taylor’s funeral on Saturday, hundreds of people came together in Roanoke to mourn her passing. This news follows the tragic event and serves as a reminder of the impact Taylor had on her community.
After the news of Abraham’s arrest, Taylor’s family issued the following statement.
“I have some ease in knowing ‘someone’ is in custody. But it’s not just ‘someone’ whose actions have to be held accountable. It is a vagabond of heathens responsible, and as a group they are to be charged for the heinousness of their actions and brought to detention. I demand justice for the senseless blood that was shed from my innocent son. Until everyone responsible is captured, charged, and detained, my son won’t be fully justified, nor will my family have the closure we desperately seek.“
