In the week leading up to the murder of his stepfather, a man who stands accused of the crime was arrested not once, but twice.
According to Michael Seiden of Channel 2, the Cobb County police have stated that the prior arrests were related to nonviolent offenses, such as obstruction of justice.
Isaac Duarte, who is just 20 years old, has been charged with the murder of his stepfather, which allegedly took place inside their mobile home.
According to the residents living in the vicinity of Cardell Road in Austell, Duarte was a frequent troublemaker, known for his erratic behavior and tendency to wander around while under the influence. In an interview with Channel 2 Action News, locals shared their concerns about his behavior and its impact on the community.
Seiden was informed by the neighbors that they had never believed Duarte to be capable of committing such a heinous crime.
Seiden was told by a teenager, “I was shocked to learn that he was killed.”
During an interview with Channel 2 Action News, the woman, whose face was not shown at the request of her mother, discussed her past encounters with Duarte.
According to the teenager, the man was always quiet and would simply wander around when he went outside. The teen mentioned that the man had caused a lot of problems in the past.
Local law enforcement became aware of the issue and began investigating the matter.
According to jail records, Duarte was taken into custody on July 10th due to an existing charge in Douglas County. He spent a total of 15 hours in jail before being released.
He was taken into police custody the following day, on charges of obstruction, and had to spend another two days in jail.
The investigation into the death is ongoing, and the attention of the family’s neighbors is fixed on Mejia.
According to the neighbors who spoke with Channel 2 Action News, he was a warm and welcoming individual who always had a smile on his face.
Neighbors have expressed that the victim was a pleasant individual who did nothing wrong.
According to jail records, Duarte is currently in custody without the possibility of bail. The charges against him include felony murder and aggravated assault.
