Olathe City implements measures to decrease fatal accidents

Olathe has recently unveiled a new safety action plan with the aim of reducing and ultimately eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries for all those who use the roads.

The US Department of Transportation has launched a national grant program that enables residents to provide their valuable input regarding specific areas in their town that should be given priority. This initiative aims to gather public feedback and suggestions to better understand the needs and concerns of the local community.

“We aim to identify pain points and the reasons behind accidents to gain a comprehensive understanding of our traffic operations. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that Olathe remains a safe space for all pedestrians,” stated Cody Kennedy, who serves as the spokesperson for the City of Olathe.

The plan aims to introduce a range of changes, such as the addition of more bike lanes, safer roads for pedestrians, increased signage, and even the potential addition of new streets. According to Kennedy, the plan is designed to address areas that have experienced high levels of traffic accidents.

“Our ultimate goal is to achieve zero traffic fatalities and accidents.”

The local authorities are encouraging residents and commuters to share their opinions and observations regarding the safety concerns in and around the city. An interactive map has been created for this purpose, allowing individuals to identify specific locations that may pose a risk.

Kennedy emphasized the importance of resident feedback, stating that the City of Olathe values it greatly. “We take all feedback seriously and recognize its significance in shaping the future of our city. We want to hear directly from our community members who know and understand Olathe best,” she said.
