Shamekia Toliver Assumes Leadership of 42nd Air Base Wing at Maxwell Air Force Base – WAKA 8

This morning, Maxwell Air Force Base witnessed a ceremony where Col. Ryan Richardson handed over the command of the 42nd Air Base Wing to Col. Shamekia N. Toliver.

As the commander of the 502d Installation Support Group Joint Base in San Antonio, Texas, Col. Toliver brings his experience and expertise to his new role as the Maxwell-Gunter Installation Commander.

In 1994, Col. Toliver joined the Air Force as an enlisted airman. She has since obtained a Master of Science degree in civil engineering and holds a special experience identifier as a licensed and board certified professional engineer.

Colonel Richardson expressed his gratitude for the location of the podium and stage in the hanger. He acknowledged that it served as a powerful reminder to all those who serve and prepare at Maxwell Air Force Base. The setting brought into sharp focus the respective roles of each individual, highlighting the importance of their work.

Colonel Toliver expressed his honor in joining the team of professionals tasked with carrying out the mission at Maxwell Air Force Base and Gunter Annex. He eagerly anticipates working with everyone to maintain the esteemed legacy of the 42nd Air Base Wing. Colonel Toliver recognizes that commanding the wing is a privilege that few are selected for, and he feels humbled to have been given this opportunity.

With his leadership, Col. Ryan Richardson oversaw and managed the base operating infrastructure and service support for a diverse community of 4,200 people. This included active duty reserve civilian and contract personnel, students, and families who were stationed at Maxwell and Gunter Annex. His efforts directly contributed to the success of the University 908th Airlift Wing by providing essential support services.
