Name of deceased JSU student made public

Last week, the Jacksonville State University police disclosed the identity of the student who was found deceased in a housing unit located within the university campus.

On Monday, a service was held to remember Mariah Casiano, a student who left a lasting impact on those who knew her. The Theron Montgomery Building was the venue for this moving tribute.

Last Wednesday, a tragic incident occurred at Pannell Hall when campus police found 22-year-old Casiano unresponsive in her dormitory during a welfare check. Unfortunately, no information has been disclosed yet regarding the cause of her untimely death.

According to a recent news release, Casiano was a psychology major at Jax State and was scheduled to graduate in December.

According to a statement released by UPD Chief Michael Barton, it is requested that the family is given the privacy they need to mourn this tragic loss. In consideration of their loved ones, please refrain from any intrusion during this difficult time.
