Moriarty ethics complaint filed by MN Police Association

On Tuesday, the MN Police Association declared in a press release that they were lodging an ethics complaint against Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty for her conduct in the case of State Trooper Ryan Londregan, whose charges were later dismissed.

According to the statement, the focus of the complaint is on Moriarty’s behavior during the prosecution of Minnesota State Patrol Trooper Ryan Londregan.

In January of this year, Londregan faced charges related to a traffic stop that resulted in the tragic death of Ricky Cobb II in July 2023. However, Moriarty recently revealed that the charges against Londregan would be dropped due to newly presented evidence.

According to the complaint, Moriarty has breached multiple regulations in the Minnesota Rules of Professional Conduct. The complainants have urged for a thorough investigation to be conducted into her conduct with regards to the case.

According to Brian Peters, Executive Director of the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association, Moriarty’s conduct can only be explained by her desire to prosecute a peace officer, regardless of the facts, to achieve political objectives. Peters further added that Moriarty openly admitted that her decision to dismiss the case was based solely on her preferred policy goals, and not on the grounds of justice.

There has been no public comment from Moriarty regarding the complaint.
