Englewood park shooting victim’s family offers $5K reward for information leading to arrest and conviction of perpetrator

The family members of a murdered teenager are taking to the streets, desperately seeking answers.

Marvel White’s tragic death at the age of 16 has left the community in shock, and in an effort to find justice, individuals have taken to the streets to gather any information that may lead to the perpetrator. Door-to-door canvassing and the placement of flyers on cars, streetlights, and poles are some of the methods being utilized in hopes of uncovering any leads in the case.

“The loss of my son is heartbreaking. He was killed without any justification and I need justice for him,” expressed Marcella White, the mother of the deceased.

The high school junior, who was set to begin his studies in the upcoming fall, tragically lost his life last month at Ogden Park in Englewood.

According to ABC7, Marvel was enjoying his time at the pool with his friends on June 22 when an argument broke out with an individual who subsequently shot him in the chest and legs. As per the reports by the police, the unfortunate incident took place during this altercation. Marvel’s mother shared this heartbreaking tale with ABC7.

My heart is heavy with grief and I am seeking justice for my son. His life was taken from him without any reason or justification.

Marcella expressed her disbelief and shock at the recent incident that occurred to her son at the park. She stated that they have been frequenting the park for years and never expected anything like this to happen.

Over the weekend, loved ones of the teenager gathered at the park where he frequently played basketball and enjoyed family gatherings, to convey a message to the community.

Marcella urged everyone to step up and take action as she described a park bustling with people of all ages, from adults to kids.

Together with the victim’s family, the Restorative Project conducted a neighborhood canvas.

Bilaal Evans, the Executive Director of the Restorative Project, emphasized the importance of taking responsibility for the community. “If not us, then who?” he asked. Evans believes that until families and community members step up and take on leadership roles, young people will continue to struggle. He urged mothers, fathers, and men to come out of their homes and provide guidance and support to the youth in their community.

The group Purpose Over Pain is taking action by offering a $5,000 reward for information that could assist in making an arrest. These parents, who have also experienced the loss of their own children to gun violence, are determined to bring justice to those responsible.

Pam Bosley from Purpose Over Pain emphasizes the urgent need to address the ongoing violence on the streets. “This is a daily occurrence, and we must find a solution to bring those responsible for these shootings to justice,” she stated.

According to Chicago police, the investigation into White’s murder is ongoing, and as of yet, no suspects have been apprehended.

Evans emphasized that the loss of a child impacts the entire community, and they want to raise awareness about this fact.
