Last November, a man was hit and killed by an Indianapolis woman while he was out walking on the southeast side of the city. However, the woman reportedly refused to stay on the scene after the accident.
Eva Marin, who is 40 years old, faced a Level 4 felony charge for leaving the scene of an accident that led to a person’s death. The charge was filed against her in April, and an arrest warrant was issued. However, it wasn’t until Tuesday that she was finally booked into the Marion County Jail.
After paying $4,000, she was able to bond out shortly afterward.
Court records reveal that Marin was driving a black Dodge Charger equipped with a police spotlight, which was seen in the vicinity of Southeastern Avenue and Wildwood Farms Boulevard at approximately 6:15 a.m. on November 28, 2023.
According to reports, a witness was driving by when they noticed a body lying in the road. They also saw a black Dodge Charger parked nearby, along with a woman who appeared to match Marin’s description.
According to court documents, the witness informed the police that Marin appeared to have been crying.
According to reports, Marin got back into her Charger and drove away from the scene while the witness was still on the phone with 911. She kept repeating that she needed to get home to help her children get to school.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department stationed themselves at the location where the tragic hit and run occurred. They patiently waited for the possible return of the responsible driver in the upcoming days. The police officers presumed that the area might be a habitual route for the driver.
Police reported that Marin appeared nervous and panicked when asked about McCombs’ death. They noted that he attempted to make several frantic phone calls in response to the questions.
According to the police report, Marin admitted that while driving home from work on the morning of Nov. 28, she reached down to turn off the heat in her car and felt a sudden impact. Upon exiting her vehicle, she discovered a victim bleeding on the ground.
According to the police report, Marin denied calling 911 and stated, “I didn’t do anything, he was already dead.”
In April, Marin was charged, which led to the issuance of an arrest warrant against her. On July 9, she was taken into police custody and subsequently posted bond.
Marin may be sentenced to a maximum of 12 years in jail if found guilty.
