Fatal shooting and injury of a woman reported near San Jose library

San Jose Police Department has reported that a man was fatally shot in the vicinity of Santa Teresa Public Library in the early hours of Thursday morning. Additionally, a female victim was also shot but is expected to survive, as per the police.

At 4:49 a.m., authorities were dispatched to the 5900 block of Liska Lane following a report of a car collision and shots being fired.

Upon arrival, the responding officers discovered a vehicle ablaze, having collided with a residential garage. Trapped inside the vehicle was a male victim. With swift action, police and fire officials extinguished the flames and safely extracted the man from the engulfed car.

After removing him from the vehicle, law enforcement officials observed that the driver had sustained at least one gunshot wound. Despite their best efforts to save him, the individual was declared dead at the location.

The San Jose PD homicide unit detectives quickly responded to the scene and are currently investigating the incident. While investigating, they came across an additional victim, a woman who had sustained a gunshot wound. Fortunately, she was immediately taken to the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

At the time of the report, the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident were under investigation, as the shooting suspect had already fled before the police arrived on the scene.

The victim’s identity is being kept confidential at this time. Once their next of kin has been notified, the coroners will confirm their identity.

As of 2024, San Jose has recorded its 18th homicide.
