On Monday, Robin Lee Reierson, aged 69, admitted to a federal felony charge of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers during the January 6, 2021, protest at the U.S. Capitol.
According to federal prosecutors, a resident of Schiller Park, Illinois, by the name of Reierson, positioned himself in front of a police barricade and forcefully pushed a barrier made of bicycle racks into a line of police officers.
According to prosecutors, Reierson eventually halted at the West Plaza of the Capitol, encouraging fellow protesters to continue moving forward with the words: “Don’t stop; keep going.”
On August 23, FBI agents apprehended Reierson in Illinois, making him one of the 1,450 individuals charged with federal crimes in connection with the Capitol protest on January 6. These individuals represent almost every state in the country.
On October 16, the sentencing hearing for Reierson’s guilty plea will be held as accepted by Judge Reggie Walton of the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia.
As a result of then-President Donald Trump’s election loss to current President Joe Biden, the Jan. 6 protest deteriorated into a violent riot as many tried to prevent the transfer of power.
Police officers were assaulted or law enforcement was impeded by over 500 individuals, resulting in felony charges.
Authorities are still conducting an investigation into the protest that occurred on January 6. Former President and current Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, has publicly stated that he intends to provide support for the individuals involved in the protest. He has expressed his intent to offer assistance to those who were arrested during the event.
