On June 17, a traffic stop conducted by the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office led to the arrest of a man from Mississippi in Sorrento.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., authorities conducted a stop on I-10 East near Sorrento resulting in the arrest of Binh Truong. The 52-year-old resident of Biloxi was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
The K-9 Unit of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted the stop, citing traffic violations as the reason for the stop.
According to APSO, the man from Biloxi willingly allowed a search of his vehicle.
The sheriff’s office stated that they found two kilograms of cocaine, which is worth roughly $44,000 on the streets. Deputies were able to locate the illegal substance.
According to APSO, they did not utilize the K-9 during the drug search.
On Monday, June 17, Truong was taken into custody and booked at the Ascension Parish Jail. As of now, he is being held on a $50,000 bond.
