Authorities have charged an Iowa woman after her 3-year-old son was found wandering through a neighborhood with a loaded handgun.
Online court records from Johnson County reveal that Samantha Marie Hall, a 31-year-old resident of Iowa City, is facing charges of child endangerment and making firearms accessible to a minor.
According to reports from WQAD-TV, the charges against the boy are related to an incident that occurred on June 14. The arrest affidavit stated that someone passing by saw the boy walking down a sidewalk on Vesti Lane in Iowa City at 7:47 p.m. CDT while carrying a weapon. KCRG-TV also reported on this incident.
According to the television station, the toddler was relieved of the gun by the individual who found out that the magazine was fully loaded.
According to the police, Hall took hold of her son and went back to their residence.
Police reported that Hall claimed to be cleaning her house and was unaware that her son had wandered off, as per KCRG. Although she admitted to owning the firearm, Hall purportedly did not realize that her toddler had left their residence with the weapon, as mentioned by the television station.
