On Tuesday night, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations announced that they will be taking over the investigation of an officer-involved shooting that took place earlier in the day at an Atlanta mall. This decision was made at the request of the Atlanta Police Department.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), a suspect named Jeremy Malone, aged 34, visited the Peachtree Center Mall in Atlanta, Georgia around 2:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday, where he engaged in a physical altercation with a man. The situation escalated quickly, and Malone allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the man.
According to the authorities, two additional individuals were wounded by the suspect’s gunfire in the food court. The GBI and police both confirmed this.
According to Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum, an armed suspect was confronted and shot by an off-duty Atlanta police officer as people were rushing to safety.
According to the GBI, all three victims and the suspect were transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention. As of Tuesday night, the victims were reported to be in stable condition and receiving treatment.
According to authorities, law enforcement officials have identified the individuals involved in the incident as a 47-year-old man, a 69-year-old woman, and a 70-year-old woman.
Officials have stated that Malone is now in the custody of the Atlanta police after being released.
According to the police, they were able to recover the handgun belonging to the suspect.
According to Schierbaum, the individual in question has a criminal record that includes past imprisonment for armed theft.
According to Schierbaum, the person in question was not fit to possess a firearm. “He should not have had access to a gun,” Schierbaum stated firmly.
