Police detain 2 suspects after shooting in Memphis leaves 4 in critical condition

Officials have reported that two individuals have been detained by Memphis police following a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday night, leaving one adult and three juveniles in critical condition.

At approximately 5:12 p.m. CT, there was a report of a shooting near the intersection of 240 West and Poplar Avenue that prompted Memphis Police to respond.

According to the police, four individuals were transported to Baptist East hospital after sustaining injuries and are currently in critical condition.

Officials reported that during their investigation, law enforcement officers came across a suspect vehicle, which prompted them to initiate a pursuit. Unfortunately, during the chase, one officer was involved in a car accident at the 3500 block of James.

The unnamed suspect, being chased by other officers, eventually got into a collision. The pursuit was still ongoing at the time of the accident.

After a short vehicle pursuit, police apprehended two individuals who were then involved in “a brief foot chase.”

According to Memphis police, the officer who was in the accident remained unharmed.

The investigation is currently in progress.
