Authorities have confirmed that a crash in Vineland claimed the lives of two individuals from South Jersey.
At approximately 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4th, the Traffic Safety Unit of the Vineland Police Department received a dispatch regarding a two-vehicle collision that had occurred at the intersection of Union Road and Mayslanding Road. The accident was reported to have resulted in life-threatening injuries.
William E. Schafer, 81, from Millville, was driving a 2024 Ford F-250 Pickup truck when it collided with a 2010 Toyota Yaris driven by John A. Mahoney, 23, from Sewell. The Toyota was also occupied by the front seat passenger, Patrick J. Mahoney, 23, also from Sewell. The crash involved these two vehicles.
According to the police, the crash claimed the lives of both Sewell men.
The relationship between the Mahoneys remained ambiguous.
According to the police department, the initial investigation suggests that the Ford pickup truck was heading towards the intersection of Union Road on Mayslanding Road in a westbound direction. Meanwhile, the Toyota failed to stop or yield and ended up crossing paths with the pickup truck, which resulted in a collision between the two vehicles.
After the incident, Schafer was immediately taken to Cooper University Hospital through an airlift as a precautionary measure. Fortunately, his condition is now stable and he is currently receiving appropriate medical attention.
The investigation is still ongoing, and as of now, no charges have been filed.
