“The events and details of this case may seem like they are straight out of a poorly written crime show, but the evidence and testimony that were presented in court confirm that they are true,” stated Jim Dennehy, the Newark Special Agent in Charge for the FBI. He further added, “Our sincere hope is that the victims involved in this investigation can move past this and leave behind Manzo and his associates in the criminal underworld.”
There is no connection between the 2015 attack and a burglary that occurred in 2017, which involved Cantin and her former fiancé.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office District of New Jersey, Perna was sentenced to two years in federal prison for the assault in 2021. As part of his sentence, he was also required to pay $17,816 in restitution.
