House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) came to the defense of President Joe Biden, asserting that his son, Hunter Biden, is innocent and has not engaged in any wrongdoing.
During an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Peter Alexander, who was filling in as the moderator, challenged the top House Democrat with President Biden’s statement in 2023 that Hunter Biden had “done nothing wrong.” Alexander also referenced an editorial board piece from the Wall St. Journal that criticized the president, stating that his comment undermined the credibility of his own Justice Department, which had indicted Hunter Biden on multiple gun and tax charges.
The Journal’s editorial board criticized the president for sending a highly inappropriate message. They argued that by doing so, he was essentially undermining the prosecutors and asserting Hunter’s innocence despite the allegations of criminal behavior.
Alexander pressed Jeffries, asking why it was appropriate for President Biden to publicly comment on his son’s case.
Jeffries stood up in defense of the president’s remarks.
“Jeffries noted that President Biden’s comment reflected the perspective of a caring father, which he believes any loving father would share.”
During his assessment of the case against Hunter Biden, Leader Jeffries made reference to former President Donald Trump. Hunter Biden’s trial for federal gun charges is scheduled to commence on Monday.
According to Jeffries, it is important to remember that both Hunter Biden and Donald Trump should be given the presumption of innocence and the right to a fair trial. The Justice Department will follow the proper process of presenting the facts and the law. Ultimately, it will be up to a jury to determine whether Hunter Biden is guilty or innocent.
