In a bold attempt to make history, Kyle Larson, the current leader in the 2024 Cup Series points, set his sights on a monumental challenge – participating in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. However, there was one significant hurdle standing in his way. The Indianapolis 500 was scheduled to take place in Indianapolis, Indiana, while the Coca-Cola 600 was set to unfold in Concord, North Carolina. With a staggering distance of nearly 600 miles separating the two tracks, Larson faced a logistical conundrum.
Larson remained determined to achieve this remarkable feat and join the elite group of just five individuals in history who have accomplished it (Kurt Busch, Robby Gordon, Tony Stewart, and John Andretti). However, Mother Nature had different intentions. Intense rainstorms led to multiple delays during the Indy 500, and by the time the race concluded, Larson found himself in 18th place. Meanwhile, the race in Concord had already begun at 6 p.m. ET.
NASCAR was determined to make this double duty happen as it would be a monumental achievement for the sport. They were prepared to go to great lengths to ensure Larson’s participation in the Coca-Cola 600. Enter his hero, Justin Allgaier.
Allgaier expressed his reluctance to replace Kyle Larson in the Coca-Cola 600. However, NASCAR has come up with a solution that satisfies both parties. Allgaier will start the race, but Larson will be able to sub-in for him once he arrives, most likely during a stage break.
Larson received significant news as he was required to participate in the Coca-Cola 600 to be eligible for the NASCAR playoffs. While there was a possibility that NASCAR would grant Larson a waiver, allowing him to skip the race, this had not occurred yet.

As Larson arrived on the track, the red flag was raised due to heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in Concord. Consequently, the race came to an abrupt halt, allowing Larson to effortlessly make his way into his car.
If the rain continues to persist on the track, there is a possibility that NASCAR may cancel the race altogether. In such a disappointing scenario, Larson’s journey to Concord would be in vain, as he would not be able to compete. It would truly be a shame.
