Israeli airstrike kills 35 people in Rafah

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, the Israeli Defense Force carried out an attack on the city of Rafah on Sunday, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 35 lives. Rafah has been a place of refuge for many Gazans amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

According to authorities in Gaza, the strike targeted an encampment where the very people who had sought protection in the town were situated.

In the attack, the IDF claimed to have eliminated two top-ranking officials from the militant group Hamas.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to take whatever measures necessary to defeat Hamas following the militant group’s unexpected attack on Israel on October 7, resulting in the loss of over 1,200 lives.

Netanyahu continues to defy increasing international pressure for a ceasefire or to step down from the ongoing military hostilities, which have already claimed the lives of nearly 36,000 Gazans.

The response to the latest IDF has been immediate and extensive.

According to Nabil Abu Rudeineh, the Palestinian presidential spokesman, Israel intentionally targeted the tents of displaced people.

According to Rudeineh, the Israeli occupation forces’ commission of this heinous massacre poses a direct challenge to all the resolutions of international legitimacy.

Immediate action is imperative to halt the extensive aggression inflicted upon the Palestinian population residing in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

Doctors Without Borders has expressed outrage over the attack.

Approximately half of the population sought refuge in Rafah until May 6, when the Israel Defense Force initiated its contentious military operation in the city.

According to a statement by UNRWA on Friday, almost 815,000 individuals have fled the city since Monday.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which dates back to 1948, has been marked by a recent wave of violence that began in October. Despite the passage of time, many of the underlying issues at the heart of the conflict have remained unchanged.
