A tech company based in Virginia has been fined by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for posting a job listing that exclusively sought white candidates, according to a press release issued by the Department on Thursday. The company, Arthur Grand Technologies, began advertising in March 2023, specifically seeking “U.S. Born Citizens [white] who are local within 60 miles from Dallas, TX [Don’t share with candidates],” with the brackets included. Following an investigation initiated in May 2023, the DOJ found that Arthur Grand had engaged in discrimination based on citizenship status and national origin. The investigation revealed that a recruiter from Arthur Grand’s subsidiary in India had posted the discriminatory advertisement on the job website Indeed. Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke expressed her disappointment, referring to the use of segregationist policies in the 2020s as “shameful.” Clarke also emphasized that she shares the public’s outrage at the “appalling and discriminatory” actions. The exact amount of the fine imposed on Arthur Grand has not been disclosed by the DOJ.
