Mississippi Aquarium gears up for summer season, expecting 1 millionth visitor

The Mississippi Aquarium is all set to kick off the summer season in the Pine Belt region.

The team from the aquarium paid a visit to WDAM 7 on Friday to introduce us to two of their residents: Lapis, the blue-tongued skink; and Ashley, the box turtle.

The skink, originally from Australia, thrives in Mississippi’s warm climate.

Box turtles are commonly found in the Southern regions and are often seen in and around residential areas and properties.

The aquarium staff is eagerly looking forward to welcoming visitors this summer and they are anticipating reaching one million visitors by the end of the year.

Staff members are eager to highlight the abundance of safe animal encounters available to visitors.

Staff member Nice Matz mentioned that visitors have the opportunity to interact with ambassador animals as well as other animals such as dolphins and penguins.

The Mississippi8 Aquarium is set to welcome visitors for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

Members of the military and veterans receive complimentary admission.

On Father’s Day, all fathers will be granted free admission.
