A senior living community resident in Gwinnett County recounts a harrowing experience after being robbed at gunpoint.
“I was attacked, I was grabbed,” said the victim, a 61-year-old individual who wished to remain anonymous, in an interview with Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Matt Johnson from Channel 2. “I have no idea who this person was, but they held a gun to my head and demanded my keys.”
As she arrived at the Grayson Ridge Apartments on Grayson Highway Thursday night around 9:30 p.m., something unexpected occurred.
“I was genuinely afraid that he would pull me back and abduct me,” she confessed.
As she arrived home after a night out with a friend, the victim found herself caught off guard and unable to respond in time.
“I think they might have been following me or someone else,” she expressed with a hint of fear in her voice. “I feel extremely unsettled by this situation.”
Keyonne Mann, a 25-year-old individual, was apprehended by the police in the early hours of Friday morning.
According to the victim, this is not the first crime that she and others have reported at the complex.
She pondered aloud, “Perhaps it was the same individual who shattered my window.”
On April 30, a number of cars at the Grayson Ridge Apartments were targeted by thieves, according to Gwinnett Police.
Residents have been waiting for repairs to the multiple broken parking lot lights since April 11, during which time the crimes occurred.
“The lights should be repaired,” she suggested. “Perhaps adding some security measures would be beneficial.”
On Friday, a spokesperson for the complex issued a statement, stating:
The safety and well-being of our residents is our utmost concern. We are actively taking steps to address the concerns raised by the residents of Grayson Ridge after the incident that took place last night. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities, and as an additional measure of security, they will be conducting increased patrols on our property for the next 30 days.
“We also understand your concerns about the non-functional lights at the back of the property. However, it is important to note that these lights had no impact on the incident that occurred last night, as they were fully functional. To address this issue promptly, we have already contacted two independent electricians to obtain quotes for the required repairs. Our aim is to have the lights repaired as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile, there are individuals residing at the property who express concerns about their personal safety.
“I’m not exactly sure what the solution is, but many of us simply want to escape from this situation,” expressed the victim.
