A Gwinnett County man has been convicted of participating in a meth distribution scheme after a three-day trial.

According to court documents, Jorge Rodriguez Martinez, 56, of Duluth received several recorded phone calls from a confidential source with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on October 7, 2020. The purpose of these calls was to purchase several kilograms of methamphetamine.
Martinez was under surveillance as he made his way to a Dunwoody apartment complex to meet with a drug supplier.
According to officials, Martinez made a trip to the source’s residence, delivering his truck loaded with several kilos of meth. He then exchanged vehicles, departed from the location, and subsequently returned to the source’s house to retrieve the meth before leaving again.
During a later incident, Martinez’s vehicle was pulled over by the Georgia State Patrol. Upon searching the car, law enforcement officers discovered a significant amount of methamphetamine, specifically three kilograms, located on the front passenger floorboard.
Martinez was convicted on April 25 of conspiring to possess methamphetamine with the intention to distribute and possessing methamphetamine with the intention to distribute. His sentencing is scheduled for July 29 at 2:30 p.m.
According to U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan, the act of trafficking methamphetamine brings harmful substances into our communities. He emphasizes that the conviction of this particular defendant serves as a stern message to others involved in the dangerous drug trade, indicating that they will face consequences for their actions.
