Court appearance for suspect in London samurai sword attack resulting in death of 14-year-old

On Thursday, a 36-year-old man from London appeared in court for the first time, facing charges of allegedly killing a 14-year-old boy and injuring several others with a sword earlier this week.

Marcus Arduini Monzo, a dual Spanish-Brazilian national, has officially disclosed his identity at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. Following the court appearance, he has been detained in custody.

Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring has set his next court appearance for May 7 at the Old Bailey, unless a hearing is available on Friday.

Monzo faces multiple charges in connection with the attack that resulted in the tragic death of 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin and left four others, including two police officers, with serious injuries. In addition to a murder charge, Monzo has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of causing grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed article.

According to prosecutors, Anjorin was attacked by the suspect while he was on his way to school.

The students and staff at Bancroft School in Woodford Green, where Anjorin went to classes, are devastated by his passing. They remember him as a true scholar and an incredible young man.

Five people, including Anjorin, required medical treatment at hospitals following the attack. Tragically, Anjorin passed away shortly after being admitted to a medical facility.
