Fatal head-on collision on I-35 near Edgerton Road claims one life.

The Kansas Highway Patrol received assistance from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office in investigating a tragic accident on Sunday. The incident occurred on northbound Interstate 35, close to Edgerton Road.

According to a crash report from the Kansas Highway Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 3:15 a.m. on Sunday.

The Jeep Gladiator was driving in the wrong direction, going southbound in the northbound lanes of I-35, while the Freightliner tractor was heading north on the same highway.

The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) reported that the Jeep collided with the semi truck in a head-on collision.

The Jeep driver was taken to a nearby hospital with suspected severe injuries.

Tragically, the collision claimed the life of the second occupant of the Jeep, identified as 22-year-old Eric Diaz from Melbourne, Florida.

According to KHP, the driver of the semi did not appear to sustain any injuries.

Johnson County MED-ACT crews also responded to the scene, alongside the sheriff’s office and KHP.

The road was closed for several hours, but it reopened around 12:45 p.m.
