A local woman, aged 34, was arrested recently after allegedly kicking a police officer in the leg during an incident at Portneuf Medical Center on Friday.
Marla Plentywounds, a resident of Pocatello, faced a felony battery charge against a police officer after an incident that commenced at approximately 12:30 p.m.
According to a police report recently obtained by the Idaho State Journal, officers were called to Portneuf Medical Center on Friday after receiving a report of a woman named Plentywounds who was being combative with staff and throwing items.
The officers were well aware that Plentywounds had an outstanding bench warrant. This warrant was issued in March after she violated pretrial release conditions related to the felony drug possession charges she was facing.
Plentywounds was found by officers inside an attached bathroom of her room at the hospital, where she was engrossed in applying makeup. Despite being asked to stop and exit the bathroom, she refused to comply, according to the police.
According to the police report, an officer made an attempt to seize Plentywounds by her arm, but she resisted and managed to break free. She then proceeded to kick the officer with her left foot, delivering a forceful kick similar to that of a mule. The kick landed on the officer’s right thigh, just above the knee.
The officer utilized a leg sweep to take Plentywounds to the ground, as mentioned in the report. Despite continued resistance on the ground, Plentywounds was eventually handcuffed and taken into custody.
Afterward, she was taken to the Bannock County Jail in Pocatello.
Plentywounds stood before 6th District Magistrate Judge David Hooste during her arraignment hearing on Monday. The judge set her bond at $10,000.
The preliminary hearing, scheduled for April 25, will require local prosecutors to present sufficient evidence to support the elevation of the case from the magistrate to the district court level for trial.
If Plentywounds is found guilty of the felony battery on a police officer charge, they could be sentenced to a maximum of five years in prison and be required to pay a fine of up to $50,000.
