However, in an interesting twist, the ex-congresswoman believes that this system actually favors former President Donald Trump, who is currently facing a staggering 88 criminal counts.
During an appearance on MSNBC’s Ayman, Donna Edwards, a former Democratic congresswoman from Maryland, expressed her belief that Trump is taking advantage of a justice system that is “really imbalanced.” Edwards made this observation in response to Ayman Mohyeldin, the MSNBC host, pointing out that Trump has not faced any consequences for sharing an image on social media that portrays President Joe Biden being tied up in the back of a pickup truck.
Mohyeldin expressed his frustration, stating that it seems like he can do whatever he pleases without facing any consequences.
Edwards expressed his belief that the scales of justice appear to be significantly skewed when it pertains to Donald Trump. According to Edwards, there are actions Trump has been involved in that, if committed by any other individual facing criminal charges, would result in their bail being revoked and immediate return to jail.
In 2023, Trump faced a total of 91 criminal counts across four indictments. If convicted and given the maximum sentence for each charge, he could have potentially faced over 700 years in prison. Although three counts were dropped in the Georgia election interference case, critics on the Left have expressed concerns about the former president’s use of delay tactics. Despite these complaints, it is widely acknowledged that a defendant facing the possibility of spending centuries behind bars is not receiving preferential treatment from the justice system.
Despite her previous criminal background, the ex-congresswoman maintains that former President Trump should not be excused for sharing images like the one featuring President Biden in the pickup truck.
According to Edwards, if Kathy Griffin had shared a picture of a pickup truck with Joe Biden, the Secret Service would have paid her a visit. However, Donald Trump appears to escape any consequences for his actions.
