Kobach initiates legal action regarding student loan forgiveness program

Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach announced on Thursday that he will be joining forces with ten other state attorneys general in a lawsuit against the Biden Administration regarding its student loan forgiveness program.

A multi-state lawsuit has been filed in federal court challenging the authority of the U.S. Department of Education to modify student loan repayment plans, resulting in the cancellation of over $156 million in student loan debt. The lawsuit also argues that the U.S. Supreme Court had previously invalidated a similar illegal student loan program introduced by President Biden last year. According to the Court’s ruling, such a program violated federal law, and only Congress has the power to authorize the forgiveness of student loans, which would involve the use of taxpayer funds.
