A woman from Freeport has admitted to being involved in drug trafficking after she was caught in Mexico in the previous year.
Deanna Marie Gerads, a 33-year-old woman, admitted her guilt in a federal court in North Dakota on Tuesday. She pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges related to the distribution and possession of controlled substances.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Gerads was apprehended in Mexico and deported back to the U.S. on August 1 of last year. She had been a fugitive for over a year prior to her capture.
The Stearns County Jail is a correctional facility located in Stearns County.
Gerads’ case is currently under investigation by the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force. The focus of this investigation is on the trafficking of methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl between Mexico and the Midwest.
According to the indictment, Gerads and 11 other individuals participated in a drug smuggling operation that brought Class A narcotics from Mexico to Minnesota, the Dakotas, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.
