Indiana residents who have low-level convictions, misdemeanors, or arrest records now have a chance to clear their criminal records. The Second Chance Initiative, a collaboration between the Volunteer Center and the Volunteer Lawyer Program, provides eligible individuals with the opportunity to expunge their Indiana conviction records. This program takes advantage of Indiana’s law, which allows for the one-time sealing of certain criminal records.
There will be a free presentation by local attorney, Heidi Fowler, on Tuesday, March 26th from 6 – 7 p.m. This presentation aims to provide information on Indiana’s Expungement Law and local resources for legal assistance. The event will take place at Ivy Tech Community College, specifically at the Tech Center Lecture Hall, Room #TC1125, located at 3701 Dean Drive. If you are interested in benefiting from the initiative or simply want more information, attending this presentation would be a great opportunity for you.
According to Ani Etter, the Executive Director of the Volunteer Center, having a criminal record can greatly hinder individuals from accessing better housing, employment, and education. The Second Chance Initiative, however, aims to open doors to improved opportunities in the future.
