Potential storms and wind advisory in eastern Alabama areas

A wind advisory is currently in effect for gusts surpassing 30 mph across Central Alabama, as a First Alert Weather Day commences on Tuesday morning due to the potential threat of severe storms and strong winds.

Officials from the EMA in Calhoun County are warning residents that the strong winds could potentially impact high-profile vehicles, including RVs and regular cars.

A wind advisory was issued this morning for several counties, and it is expected to remain in effect until Tuesday morning. Gusty winds are anticipated to affect a portion of East Alabama, with wind speeds ranging from 15 to 25 mph and gusts reaching up to 40 mph. The strength of these winds can potentially cause unsecured objects like patio furniture, yard toys, and trash cans to be blown around. Additionally, trees may be toppled, and there could be a few power outages. Given these conditions, driving may become challenging, prompting county officials to urge residents to exercise extreme caution.

Tyrone Davis, from the Calhoun County EMA, advises to take necessary precautions for the safety of animals that are kept outdoors during severe weather conditions. It is important to ensure that they are adequately protected. Additionally, it is crucial to be vigilant and watch out for low-hanging power wires that could pose a danger. It is also advisable to be aware of the possibility of falling trees, as they can cause damage. Being mindful of these common hazards can help mitigate risks during such situations.

Make sure to have multiple methods for receiving weather alerts that will wake you up while you’re asleep before going to bed tonight.
