Chelsea Clinton came to the defense of Barron Trump, emphasizing that he should be granted privacy due to his status as a private citizen who is not involved in politics.
During an appearance on ABC’s “The View,” Hillary Clinton expressed her views on how the media should handle the coverage of former President Trump’s son now that he has turned 18. She emphasized that he should be granted an “unimpeachable right to privacy.”
Yesterday, Barron Trump celebrated his 18th birthday, sparking a debate on social media and television. Some individuals argue that now that he has reached adulthood, he is fair game and no longer should be regarded as a child. Barron has been relatively private and has kept a low profile, in stark contrast to his siblings. Ana Navarro, co-host of “The View,” raised this topic and turned to Clinton, inquiring about her thoughts on the matter.
Clinton responded by urging the media to “give him some space” and refrain from further scrutiny.
“I believe he is a private citizen,” she responded. “I strongly feel that if someone is a private citizen, they should have an inviolable right to privacy, and I believe the media should respect that and refrain from prying into their personal lives.”
Navarro’s inquiry was prompted by a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) made by former NBC senior executive Mike Sington. In his post, Sington stated, “Barron Trump turns 18 today. He’s fair game now.”
In a statement to Newsweek, Sington clarified his now-deleted post, explaining that when he said the individual was ‘fair game’ now, he meant that as an adult, he is now open to criticism from the press.
“I was recently made aware that ‘fair game’ could be interpreted as an invitation for harm,” he explained. “I want to make it clear that I do not endorse or wish any physical harm upon anyone. I value and appreciate the feedback and constructive criticism I receive.”
During the discussion, Joy Behar inquired about whether the same principle applies to Trump’s other children, namely Eric Trump, Ivanka Trump, and Donald Trump Jr.
Clinton explained that the three individuals were once campaign surrogates for their father, who is currently the presumptive GOP nominee for president. This distinction, according to Clinton, makes the conversation about them completely unique.
