Democrats in North Carolina urge voters to support Biden in order to protect the Affordable Care Act

Democrats in North Carolina are voicing their concerns about healthcare in the lead up to the upcoming general election.

President Biden is set to deliver a speech at Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston.

Friday marked the 14th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act becoming law, with Democrats leveraging its significance to garner support for President Joe Biden’s re-election in November.

Former President Donald Trump has previously expressed his intention to repeal the ACA if he were to be re-elected.

“We must prevent Donald Trump from winning this election as it holds immense significance for North Carolina. Countless North Carolinians stand to lose their health insurance, and over 4.2 million individuals with pre-existing conditions, such as cancer and diabetes, could face potential barriers to accessing essential care,” emphasized former U.S. Representative G.K. Butterfield.

In 2023, North Carolina took a significant step by extending Medicaid coverage to approximately 600,000 individuals under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). However, Democrats recently cautioned voters that these crucial improvements might be at risk of being reversed.

Channel 9 has contacted North Carolina’s GOP for comment regarding Friday’s statements but is still awaiting a response.
