MSNBC’s Jen Psaki presented evidence of Donald Trump’s past endorsements of political violence, countering the claim that his “bloodbath” remarks were misunderstood.
During a rally in Dayton, OH on Saturday, Trump addressed the crowd and discussed the auto industry. He made a statement that caught the attention of the audience, saying:
We’re going to put a 100% tariff on every single car that comes across the line. And you’ll not be able to sell those cars, if I get elected. Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s gonna be a bloodbath. That will be the least of it. It’s gonna be a bloodbath for the country. That will be the least of it, but they will not sell those cars.
Jen Psaki responded with sarcasm, mocking the Trump team’s attempt to downplay the situation. She retorted, “Oh, of course! The Trump team wants us to believe that there’s nothing to see here, that he was just talking about the auto industry. We should all consider the full context, otherwise it would be irresponsible.”
Psaki further emphasized:
Well, if they want us to consider the full context, let’s do just that. Because “the full context” is the Trump kicked off the same exact rally by saluting the people who were convicted for the deadly assault on the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, all to the tune of the National Anthem sung by a choir of imprisoned insurrectionists. “The full context” is that some of the first words out of Trump’s mouth last night, same rally, were thanking those rioters and calling them “patriots.” “The full context” is that he also said, in this same rally, quote, “If this election isn’t won, I’m not sure you will ever have another election in this country.” “The full context” is that he went on to say that some undocumented immigrants are, quote, “not people.” And, of course, “the full context” is that this is much bigger than one single speech.
Psaki clarified that the full context was not overlooked. She emphasized that the comment in question was not an off-message remark; rather, it accurately reflects his intended message.
