Cell phones and other wireless communication devices are now banned in Indiana classrooms following the recent signing of a measure by Governor Eric J. Holcomb.
Starting from July, the use of phones, tablets, laptops, and gaming devices will be prohibited during instructional time. However, it will be up to each school system to establish their own policies in order to enforce this ban effectively.
According to Senate Enrolled Act 185, there are a few exceptions that allow the use of communication devices. These exceptions include using them for educational purposes, medical purposes, and in case of an emergency.
Supporters of the initiative argue that its primary goal is to ensure that students remain attentive and engaged while in school.
