The man responsible for the armed robbery at Hollywood Casino & Hotel Lawrenceburg on Saturday night has been identified by the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office.
Daniel Adam Birdseye, a 39-year-old resident of Cincinnati, was apprehended by the Indiana Gaming Commission, according to the sheriff’s office.
Multiple agencies responded to the casino on Saturday night at around 7:30 p.m.
Dearborn County Sheriff Shane McHenry announced that law enforcement officers established a perimeter around the casino and successfully apprehended a male suspect who was armed.
Sheriff McHenry confirmed that the Indiana State Police helicopter was dispatched to ensure the absence of any additional suspects in the vicinity. He reassured that the area was deemed safe as of 10:00 PM last night.
Sheriff McHenry explained that there were at least six agencies, including the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, that utilized a drone during the operation. He emphasized that the drone proved to be extremely beneficial in their efforts.
The sheriff emphasized the crucial role played by both the drone and the K9 officers in locating Birdseye.
“The suspect escaped into the Oxbow area, located just east of the casino. This region is known for its rugged terrain and river bottoms. The presence of the drone and the canine proved to be extremely beneficial in tracking down the individual,” he explained.
Sheriff McHenry is currently conducting an investigation to determine if there were any other individuals involved.
FOX19 contacted Hollywood Casino for a statement, and Mike Galle, the General Manager, issued the following response:
“We greatly appreciate the swift action taken by our dedicated team members, law enforcement, and Indiana Gaming Commission personnel in response to the recent incident. Their quick response ensured the safety of our valued patrons and staff. We want to assure everyone that Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg continues to operate under normal business hours and remains open to serve our customers.”
Sheriff McHenry booked Birdseye into the Dearborn County Jail after midnight.
Prosecutors are currently convening to finalize the charges against him, according to reports.
The investigation is currently underway.
