Mocobizscene- A Queens Sunglass Hut was targeted by a large group of thieves not once, but twice in a span of two weeks, according to the police. The thieves managed to escape with over $40,000 worth of merchandise. The police have released photos of the suspects involved in the incidents.
According to the police, the Sunglass Hut at Macy’s on Roosevelt Avenue in downtown Flushing was targeted by a group of six suspects on the evening of January 8th. They struck again on the evening of January 20th.
In both incidents, they entered the store at approximately 7:15 p.m. and immediately began taking merchandise. They swiftly left the premises on foot after their actions. During their first theft, the culprits managed to steal items worth $16,780. On their second attempt, they made away with an additional $23,958 worth of loot. In total, their criminal activities resulted in a staggering $40,738 loss.
There were no reported injuries in either incident. Gov. Kathy Hochul unveiled a $45 million initiative on Wednesday to tackle the alarming rise in retail theft, which has seen grand larcenies surge by 50% in the city.
