Kansas Governor Kelly mandates delayed start for certain state employees

TOPEKA (MOCOBIZ) – Due to the recent winter weather, state offices in Topeka, Kansas will remain closed until 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23.

Governor Laura Kelly has issued an Inclement Weather Declaration, causing a delay in the start time for non-essential state employees in Shawnee County. As stated in a press release, certain state offices will now be opening at 10 a.m. tomorrow.

Kelly announced that state employees will have a delayed start time tomorrow due to icy road conditions. She urged everyone to drive with caution and give road crews the space they need to work.

The reason for this delay is to ensure that road crews have enough time to clear the roads and sidewalks once the sun is up. According to the press release, state employees are expected to report to work by 10 a.m., when offices will be open to the public.

According to the press release, employees with the Board of Regents, Regents Institutions, the Judicial Branch, other statewide elected offices, and the Legislative Branch of Government are not included in this declaration. Each of these designated representatives will be responsible for deciding whether this applies to their employees.
