Woman Pleads Guilty To Hitting 5-Year-Old In DC While Drunk, Pinning Youngster Under Car.

WASHINGTON—A mother struck a 5-year-old and her father in D.C. while driving under the influence; the youngster was dragged and left pinned beneath the vehicle. The mother has entered a guilty plea to assault.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia reports that on December 19, 33-year-old Thaniyyah Veney entered a guilty plea to one count of aggravated assault with a vehicle.

Around 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, according to the prosecution, Veney struck the toddler and her father who were standing on the sidewalk in the 3200 block of 4th Street, SE.

Veney ran over the young child and continued driving till she came to a stop in front of a house’s steps. Veney exited the vehicle and made his way to a neighboring alley, leaving the 5-year-old stranded beneath the vehicle.

Quick-thinking firefighters raised the car sufficiently to free the young child by using a ladder as a makeshift lift. She then had life-threatening injuries and was evacuated to the hospital.

Veney’s breath was tested hours after the incident, and the results showed that her alcohol content was higher than the “per se” limit for intoxication, according to the police.

The anticipated date of Veney’s sentence is February 23, 2024.
