The moment a taco vendor in South Los Angeles was robbed at knifepoint in front of his wife, he was captured on a terrifying surveillance camera. It occurred in front of a busy laundry in the 7800 block of S Central Avenue on Friday at approximately 9:21 p.m.
The suspect—who was spotted wearing a dark-coloured hoodie—is seen approaching Jose Segura Romero from behind in footage that Eyewitness News was able to get. After pressing the knife near his neck, the guy starts yelling for money.
“At that moment, I thought it was a joke because sometimes, many guys joke with me there,” Romero recalled. “But when I wanted to move, I felt it wasn’t a joke because he dug it in more.” Romero declared he was prepared to combat the suspect, but before he could do so, he glanced at his wife Lorena Flores, who confided in him that she was afraid.
“I advised him to leave the money because of this. For money, he doesn’t have to put his life in danger,” Flores remarked. The Los Angeles Police Department said the thief made off with about $500. Additionally, the suspect’s black Infiniti with black rims and tinted windows was seen on tape by surveillance equipment. The pair said they would keep working at the taco stand because it is their source of income, and they were not concerned about selling in the neighborhood before. Speaking with ABC7 on Tuesday, some expressed their sadness for the pair.
“It’s not good that they labour for their kids. That’s horrible, in my opinion,” remarked Maria, a resident.
There have been no reported injuries or arrests.
