Family Of Man Shot And Killed By LA County Deputies Still Seek Justice Over 2021 Shooting

It has been two years since deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department fatally shot Frederick Holder, a 28-year-old man, in Norwalk.

Despite the District Attorney’s office opting against prosecuting the deputies involved, the family of Holder remains unwavering in their pursuit of justice.

“The shooting of Frederick Holder by the department was a clear violation of policy, and those responsible have not faced any consequences,” expressed Sylvester Ani Jr, a close friend of the family and the founder of the nonprofit organization The Love We Don’t See.

In June 2021, deputies tried to stop Holder from driving recklessly. As they approached the truck, they mistakenly perceived Holder pointing a gun, prompting three deputies to open fire. However, it later became apparent that Holder was actually holding an L-shaped lighter.

Holder’s family recently held a press conference to unveil a striking new billboard. The billboard displayed the crime statistics of the Sheriff’s Department, highlighting their success in solving crimes. During the conference, Holder’s family reiterated their plea for the state Attorney General, Rob Bonta, to thoroughly investigate Holder’s untimely death.

“We would also appreciate a meeting with the Board of Supervisors to discuss our commitment to investing in people rather than focusing solely on policing. This shift in approach could have potentially saved Fred’s life,” stated Ani.

The Sheriff’s Department stated that the District Attorney’s Office has chosen not to press criminal charges. They concluded that the deputies acted lawfully in self-defense and in defense of a third party.

Our Department is currently conducting an administrative review of the matter.
