Virginia Beach Duo Sentenced To Prison For $15k Gas Station Plot

Wednesday marked the sentencing to prison of two men in connection with a 2022 conspiracy in which they conspired to steal over $15,000 worth of fuel from a gas station in Virginia Beach.

According to the Virginia Beach Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Rashane Griffith received a seven-year prison sentence, while his accomplice Devon Drumgoole received a five-year sentence. According to Circuit Court Judge Les L. Lilley, both men were given sentences that exceeded the prescribed guidelines. This was attributed to the “magnitude of the scam, as well as the boldness and arrogance” exhibited by the defendants.
Conspiracy, grand theft, and possession of burglary equipment were the charges against the two individuals.

The Virginia Beach Police Department stated that in June 2022, Griffith and Drumgoole circumvented the credit card machine at the Citgo gas station on North Great Neck Road and sold the card for personal benefit.

Even though the station was closed for the day, many vehicles were observed filling up, alerting the department to the scheme. The suspects, according to the police, unlawfully accessed the outlets and directed drivers to pay with the Cash App.

On social media, the two individuals advertised that they were offering the petroleum at a discount of fifty percent, according to authorities.
