The National Christmas Tree in a city filled with boastful individuals may have finally reached its limit. A powerful gust of wind swept through Washington, D.C., causing a nearby tree to topple over right by the White House. The incident occurred Tuesday night, leaving the tree uprooted and lying on the ground.
Crews are cordoning off the area around the tree in preparation for Thursday’s ceremony.
A massive crane made an attempt to restore the fallen tree, but it remains uncertain whether the tree can be saved. According to the National Weather Service, winds in the District reached speeds of approximately 17 mph on Tuesday, with gusts reaching as high as 29 mph.
While crews make efforts to save the tree, Congress is anticipated to illuminate theirs on Tuesday evening.
