Earlier this year, a 2-year-old girl was found deceased with fentanyl in her system. As a result, her mother from Alabama has been charged with reckless manslaughter.
Around 4:00 p.m. on July 18th, the Tarrant Police Department received a call regarding an unresponsive 2-year-old juvenile in the 2200 block of Old Pinson Highway. The police department promptly responded to the call.
When the TPD officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the 2-year-old with no pulse. The child was quickly rushed to Children’s Hospital, but unfortunately, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The 2-year-old child had been sleeping in the bed of one of her parents, Farrah Bates, as reported by the child’s parents. TPD reported that an examination conducted by the Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office indicated the presence of fentanyl in the child’s system during her time of passing.
TPD Detective Crosby resumed the investigation on November 14th. As a result, Bates has been charged by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office with reckless manslaughter and endangering a child with exposure to controlled substances.
As advised by her counsel, Bates is anticipated to surrender herself to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, according to TPD.
